Former CEO, Intercontinental Hotels

Tom was formerly Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of InterContinental Hotels, responsible for its worldwide hotel and pub/restaurant activities. During Tom’s tenure, the company grew from $250 million to $600 million in operating profit, including over 3,200 hotels in 93 countries. InterContinental owns, manages, leases or franchises more than 512,000 guest rooms at properties bearing some of the most recognized hotel brands in the world: Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Select, Holiday Inn Garden Court SM, Holiday Inn Express, Sunspree Resort, and Staybridge Suites by Holiday Inn.

For fifteen years prior to InterContinental, Tom held various senior management positions within Federal Express Corporation, and ultimately served as its second- in-command executive, the Executive Vice President of Worldwide Customer Operations responsible for all aspects of the company’s non-flight operations. During his tenure, the company grew from $150 million to $7 billion in annual revenue. His areas of responsibility included worldwide operations, marketing, sales and customer services

Prior to Federal Express, Tom was Senior Vice President – Travel Operations for Thomas Cook, Inc., VP Sales at Hertz, and VP Marketing at the Flagship Hotels subsidiary of American Airlines.

Tom has been Chief Executive Officer of two small, private technology companies, AudioFax and Voice Com Systems, both of which he successfully nurtured and sold. Currently Tom is a non-executive Director of Interface, Inc., a producer of modular carpet tiles and of UDR, Inc., a $4 billion apartment REIT.

Tom received his degree in Economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
